Dirty Projectors

This Saturday at the Triple Rock Social Club, with a sick band. Cool.

If the Olson clan keeps at it, I see big things in their future.

It‘s like those raspberry-flavored smelly markers and cool Mac screensavers and Little Debbies and heroin all wrapped into a sparkly digital aural drug.

Sonia got into grad school at USC, and we’re going to Los Angeles at the end of July. This is the first time I will have left the land o’ lakes without any specific plans for coming back, so I’m trying to get out more in these last few months.

Enter Rock the Garden. On June 20th — which marks two years since the famous first date at the Cabooze — the Decemberists, Calexico, Yeasayer, and Solid Gold will be playing at the Walker Art Center’s sculpture garden. I got tickets this afternoon, I’m excited for the bands, the weather, the beer, and the big spoon and cherry.

Other things to do before I leave:

  • Picnic on the stonearch bridge
  • Saint Paul Saints game
  • Boundary waters
  • Regularly karaoke
  • Saturday night movie at Uptown theater
  • Dine at the Lexington
  • Bowling party at BLB
  • Canoeing on a lake or the river
  • Read in a zoo for a day
  • Bike from downtown St. Paul to downtown Minneapolis

Any more ideas?

My obsession with this band comes in waves. The latest wave was set off by the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are.

So here are my favorite Arcade Fire videos. Watch them in hi-res if you can.

No Cars Go, Rebellion (Lies), Keep the Car Running, Neighborhood #3 (Power Out).
