No hyperbole:

Senate Republicans are now privately threatening to derail the confirmation of key Obama administration nominees for top legal positions by linking the votes to suppressing critical torture memos from the Bush era… The memos… apparently grant authority for the brutal treatment of prisoners, including waterboarding, isolated confinement in coffin-like containers, and “head smacking.”

So fiscal conservatism, respect for life, skepticism of the efficacy of government intervention, insistence on personal responsibility, etc., I can understand the importance of all those things. But that’s not what the Republicans are fighting the hardest for. They’re fighting to oppress unpopular minority groups and to violate international law.

If you think that there’s no good reason to keep gay people from getting married, or if you think that torture is immoral or illegal, then you’re a de facto Democrat.
